Comments: Yeah, I think it's still "The Rail" even if you use holds to the side. It's never felt like a clear line to me. I have done it a handful of ways, and just think to myself that it's 'probably "The Rail" as long as it feels roughly v3, and I use the big rail hold at some point while I'm climbing'. The finish up the arete is the fun part anyway.

Comments: Thanks Andrew! Hm. Id never seen anyone climb it, or a video or anything. So I started lower than the original. I think the first couple of moves did add a touch of difficulty. Great FA.

Comments: Right. No camping in the parking lot. Just look for the designated camping area once on top of the hill. It's huge and not a bad place. Sunny.
Get a pass (phone or online, and it's a decent price), bury your human waste (helpful to have a trowel), pick up your garbage (and that of others), and try to keep the night time screaming to a minimum.

Comments: Any comments on how this climbs now vs how it climbed before the starting hold breakages? The first move felt harder than the "crux" move above, and kind of thrutchy today. Maybe I'm missing something?

Comments: Some time in the last year, this problem lost a key flake off of the face. There is a beautiful outline of chalk where it used to be, but I don't think it's going to go at v5 anymore. The v3 start is still there.

Comments: Very good! You get to do the first tsunami crux, rest in the incredible kneebar, and fire out of the kneebar into a pretty big runout on your way to the rp crux of natural. Excellent!

Comments: Thanks for posting the shot! That is not a picture of the climb that I did. My impression from Kelly's guidebook was that Tahitian Moon was on an independent boulder about 20 feet left of Sunny and Cheap when you are facing that climb. If the picture is, in fact, of Tahitian Moon, I can delete this page or just move up a description that you write. Please let me know by PM (I don't get notified when my pages change, so I periodically have to manually go through them - ugh).

Comments: This route has suffered quite a bit of breakage in the last year. I've gotten on it for goes three times in the past year (summer 2012, late fall 2012, and summer this year), but never really gave it consecutive attempts. When I first got on it, I was told that there was significant breakage since the FA, and in the last two times I've gotten on it, it has been harder than the time before. It used to be this nice little techy roof with good holds, a big swing over, and a bomber toe hook, hand ma... more >>

Comments: this climb deserves a bit more attention as the sandiest, chossiest line at the entire crag. it's absolutely amazing. do it on toprope and bring helmets for both and a face shield for the climber. it's beyond appalling - but you're on toprope, so no big deal, right? kind of like climbing a waterfall of sand.

Comments: Shoot. Well, I climbed it a couple years ago, and for this one and the others around there, I made some quick notes. "fun, painful, short, ends on cool holds" was my note. I wrote this page more from my note than from memory - I have a vague recollection of the little area that it sits in, the landing, and how raw my skin was at the end of the day on what felt like a sharp traverse. You're probably right. Maybe a picture would serve us well to clarify.

Comments: ^ i suspect a higher difficulty as well nic. However, everything feels hard to me, so ill leave it alone. Yeah, without the jug, the high crux requires actual climbing.

Comments: Believe it or not, I had to go to the local urgent care for a bouldering injury last summer, and I ran into "the strong climber who got hurt on this". He was my doctor, a Dr Deladuca, if Im not mistaken. We got to talking about climbing, and I mentioned that this was one of the only hardish cracks Id done in Leavenworth. He was surprised, and told me the story:
"I was trying to get around the Lazy Boy, and got my leg stuck. I moved up, thinking it would twist out, but it didn't, and I twisted m... more >>
