Comments: The rightmost crack is definitely the easiest. Leftmost it probably .9-, or felt that way today.

Comments: Painful and strenuous on the feet. The guidebook gives it 10d, which is about right for a slab, I think. The top, while slightly easier, has much worse rock.

Comments: These buttes were considered to be a sacred Native American site from what I've been told. The western most butte is thought to be "male," while the eastern one is "female." Even the slightest wind makes them rain debris, the climbing would be terrifying.

Comments: The anchor bolts wiggle in the rock, most holds were suspect, way sketchy, like death trap sketchy.

Comments: All my grades here are subjective. The problems may be significantly harder or easier, I really can't tell. Some consensus ratings would be splendid.

Comments: Bird poo central, but that just add to the ambiance, right? Probably the easiest 5.8 I've been on in my life. A few backsteps and minor stems make it a cinch.

Comments: You can now get a dual membership at the BRC and the Spot, making for probably the best indoor climbing experience in North America. I don't work either place, I didn't get paid to write this, I just want to make sure two of the best gyms around stay that way.

Comments: This definitely is not a "destination," but if you're on your way back from WC pass or Lake City or have been at Penitiente during a sunny spell, it's for sure worth stopping by, it's a five minute walk from the car.

Comments: Thank you for the picture, in this day and age where my cell phone has a 2.0 megapixel camera in it, I'm not sure I understand why so many boulder problems get posted without photo beta. Roped route descriptions are one thing, but with so many problems potentially packed onto one boulder it REALLY helps to have even one snapshot of what you are trying to describe. 1 pic = 1000 words man. I miss the desert...GJ rocks.

Comments: Strangely enough, geological forces seem to move quite quickly here, the route has completely changed in character and is now unrecognizable, it's even a different color, how peculiar.

Comments: There's a 40 acre parcel of land at the base of this cliff band for sale for $125,000. I'm young and poor, but someone with a little cash to burn could make the buy of the century if they get on it.

Location: CO : Boulder : Boulder Canyon : Nip and Tuck : Arête (5.10d) By: Evan S When: Oct 18, 2009 | view comment >> |
Comments: You all have sandbags in your pants. The route's a soft 10a, but still 10a up to the 2nd to last bolt, then moving over the roof, yes even with the holds on the arete, is 10b/c. Suckers. Just stay right of the arete, or you're on a different climb.

Comments: Most of the route is 11- or a, then getting up to the roof turns to harder 11, then over the roof turns to 12. If you can't crimp on quarter pad two finger holds, you're not gonna mantle, I didn't.

Comments: The route's something like 5.8+ until the mantle onto the slab, which is 10a, like it or not you crusty old sandbaggers.

Comments: Quit yer moanin', this is a huge boon for the Crystal River Valley. Previously there was only a crappy little wall at CMC a little ways out of town. There are a lot of climbers who I'm sure really appreciate knowing there is an indoor option for cold/snowy/rainy days over there.
