Comments: Perhaps stiff for 5.9, but I don't know where Marty got the 10b grade from. It is very soft for that grade.

Comments: Yeah back n the day when ropes were only 45m long it wasn't long enough. I guess 50m ropes would be OK, but the friction of the rope on the slab would still be a pain.

Comments: Louie who was on the route extensively in 2013 reported no loose blocks (I asked him Aug '14), so the problem block has probably been taken dealt with, but, as always you should always take care - it is a quarry after all.

Comments: This problem can feel desperate if you don't have the sequence right. Wire the sequence and the crux flows nicely up to the bomber pocket, where you can compose yourself for the final couple of pulls to the top.

Comments: Yeah, it is nice. Strangest this is it isn't a plant at all, but a fungus.

Comments: Amazing to think the Dervish was E5 6a before the crack cleaned up. So disappointing for many aspiring E5 leaders!!

Comments: You can try The Pit, not free but at $2 a night it may as well be.

blm.gov/ca/st/en/fo/bishop/bou...

Other than that there is lots of BLM land that you can use, but to help protect the local environment think first about using an established campground.

Comments: The starting hold for the right can be found in the dirt.

The problem is now considerably harder, than the original V4 grade.

Comments: Not 5c, perhaps not even 5a, and certainly not E3, but fun all the same.

Comments: Yeah crimps are all there, and so are the huge feet.

If you like simple crimp pulling get on this one!

Comments: Hard to say without getting on it again. On the FA there were two ways to do the crux, one used smallish holds to the left of the arete (which were a little crunchy) and the other avoided them but both went at the same 11b grade - the latter had no obvious loose holds.

By: Euan Cameron When: Jan 4, 2014

Comments: Climbed it yesterday and I would say the V1 grade stands. Long moves at the start but the holds are big and the sidepull on the left of the hueco gives easy access to the top.

Comments: Only contrived by the rule of no feet on the flake, but its a fun problem - small feet start to good moves up the wall.

Comments: Crimps on this are slick in the sun, so best to wait for cool temps or shade.
