Comments: Most of the names and grades for these problems came from a small group of climbers who began visiting the canyon in the mid 90s. I am sure that there was an earlier group out there in the 80s, Johnny Myrick and co., as well and possibly even before. Mr. Murray almost certainly climbed the most obvious lines as well. None of the info is meant to claim first ascents, but was simply the result of too many years of talking about the problem next to the problem with the jug starting hold. No dis... more >>

Comments: For the masochist, if you follow Lee's directions to the corridor in the Crystal Ship area, don't go up and left to get to the glass house area. Instead, duck down and scope out the tunnel that would take you to the same place. Look up, grab a hand jam and proceed to work your way south along the roof crack/flare. Exit with strenuous stems/bridging. Flannel recommended. Technophobia is V3 and not fun, but if you are training for the Valley, it might be useful for replicating horrifying bomb... more >>

Comments: The main boulders are called the Gateway Rocks and they form a chimney more than an offwidth. The chimney is good training for Epinephrine or the regular route on Half Dome. The east and north faces of the two rocks contains a handful of problems including an excellent warm up rail. Continue north along the band for an excellent V2, Balance test, up a vertical seam. Keep exploring and you can find about 35 problems mostly in the V2-V3 range. For the trad climber, tape up and hit the classic C... more >>

Comments: I walked out to check out the conditions at Screaming jihad and found no glue at all. The seam that Tom is concerned with looks highly suspicious, however. The traditional ethic in the canyon has been natural holds only and any other behavior threatens access as Open Space and Wilderness laws apply.

Comments: I checked the old topo and the original grade was v4, but who knows it could be just my glasses. Maybe I need to trade them in for bifocals.

Comments: The trick is to do it without bleeding. Davito swore that we were just doing a face climb because we did not climb the thing using fist stacks.

Comments: Good call. If we shared that info Bryan would probably go out of business. I can already see the cars leaving the gym at breakneck speeds to be the first to sample those obscure foothills classics.

Comments: Nice job out there boys. The directions to the Upper area are a bit difficult to follow. Is there really a small sign? A small sign post? The lower area was easy to find. Does this mean we have to all start sharing our secret foothills boulders?

Comments: Jeremy,
I noticed the same thing and had to comment on Davidson's Dihedral. Mark apparently just likes tossing out low star ratings for routes that are obviously better. Why? Who knows?

Comments: The fixed stopper fell out. Randall has it if Mick wants it back. A spot at the start may be worthwhile.
