Comments: The route has 11B written in chalk which makes it a bit confusing since its posted here at 11C. Walk in the Park has an 11C and a smile. I thought Walk was Leprosy since it gets the most stars, but no big deal.

Comments: This would be much more fun if the first bolt had been placed for clipping on lead rather than for stick clipping. I found the hardest "move" to be clipping the first bolt off the two handed sloper. The bolt is way right and off the climbing line. I know its old fashioned, but sometimes people actually climb up and clip the first few bolts.

Comments: Aaron, thanks for the topo upgrade. My vote is for Thorsten to be the bikini clad local.

Comments: The area looks great and I am looking forward to checking it out this weekend. However, on my computer screen the topo photos are nearly impossible to read. Any chance Aaron can switch the color of the text? Maybe it is just my screen or my old age. Bifocals are next.

Thanks for sharing the beta and putting up what look like great routes.

Comments: Thanks, but I actually followed it. I was lucky enough to lead Burning Man, then follow Beasts. Two awesome routes.

Comments: Aaron,
We climbed it as one pitch I guess before you placed the intermediate anchor. Do you start in the corner proper or up the broken easy terrain? We took the easier line, but the other start looks much better. As for the upper crack, it was too high for us shorties to reach, but the move wasn't too bad. Very good route, nice job.

Comments: It seems like you guys did everything right. Hopefully the idea of powerdrilling routes is more urban legend than real although it is NM and you never know. You would have to be a pretty serious idiot to do that. Like I said originally, my only concern is the havoc that increasing crowds will wreak on the current trail system. Once people start camping there and you get large groups thrashing up and down those ridges you are going to have all sorts of erosion, rock fall, etc. Anyway, I won'... more >>

Comments: The Forest Service is certainly going to notice the increase in use in the area. It seems ridiculous to think otherwise. There were probably more than a dozen or so climbers just at Upper Wall last weekend. The bottom line is this is a superb crag for traditional climbing in NM. In terms of not sharing the area, you may not have shared it with the FS, but the in depth posting of routes, gear descriptions, and photos are certainly sharing. I am not complaining, I am as psyched on the place a... more >>

Comments: I agree. The thing is that not building really good trails leads to more rather than less impact. Think of the trail up to Castleton Tower. Without real trails, the crowds will cause far more erosion and impact than they would with trails. I am not suggesting trail work without FS acknowledgement, but climbers are going to go to Capulin Canyon and they can either walk down a well established trail or thrash their way down a hillside. Add in the effect of the fire and the intensity of NM rai... more >>

Comments: Went and checked it out. Unlike most NM areas, this one is better than I expected. It looks a bit like the Creek, but climbs like Paradise Forks. This is certainly my favorite traditional crag in the state. It will eventually draw some crowds and the trail system is going to be an issue. If anywhere deserves some serious trail work it is this place. The routes developers have done a great job, but the trail work needed is impressive. If you dig jamming, this is the place in NM.

Comments: Yeah, the first crux is exiting the crack to gain the no hands ledge and there is no bolt on this half unless my memory is worse than usual. The bolt is above the no hands rest and protects the face climbing over to the final crack.

Comments: I think Rich and Leif were working the harder extension and simply ignored the V7 exit. When Lance, Chris, and I visited the boulder, there was absolutely no chalk on the sidepull and it was pretty chossy. Rich and Leif certainly could have climbed it before Lance, they were plenty strong, I just think they passed it up for the harder lines. I was actually bouldering at the Pond before those guys, my friend Kyu, who I gave a Pond tour to, called them up and shared the beta. Then they arrived ... more >>

Comments: I know that the traverse continue, but is powerstroke lance's name? We always called this nascar traverse. Who named it powerstroke. Lance did the FA of the 7 variation. Chris E, local stud, and I did 2nd and 3rd and just called it Nascar traverse if i remember. Not a big deal, but I had never heard of powerstroke.

Comments: Gotta love a Bon Jovi reference. Was that the video filmed on Castleton or was that Dead or Alive?
