Comments: Really fun stuff. As a 5.8 this felt much harder than Skyline or Rye Crisp.
On the rappel my 60 meter rope left us a few feet shy of the ground on the ramp...70 meter rope not needed.

Comments: Last week at Nautilus I met a roadtripping climber from Montreal (didn't catch his name). He was shorter than me (5'10") and said he had been working the route, calling the crux 5.13+.

Comments: Braden, Shelf Road cliffs are generally dead vertical. The only place to escape rain is your tent. However, I've been chased off Cactus Cliff back to my campsite by rain only to be climbing a couple hours later, it dries out pretty quickly.

Unless the forecast is calling for an all-week rain event, you should be fine.

Comments: Nate,
I was there that day you guys were on this. I thought it was a fun and worthy route so I added it to this site after waiting to see if you guys would. Personally I think calling the crack above the balcony off-limits makes the upper portion a bit contrived. It's directly below the lower half of the route and it's not part of the No Go route anyways.
Regardless it's a nice addition to a buttress packed with great routes.

Comments: For a day of top-roping at BM I usually bring two or three pieces of 30 to 50 foot webbing, single set of stoppers, set of cams, and medium to large hexes. Some people like using tri-cams at BM but I think they're more hassle than it's worth (I have bootied a few though).
Many of the popular areas don't have much for natural pro. There's a few trees and boulders you can sling but they often sit far back from the cliff edge thus the need for long webbing.
Some of the routes require thought-prov... more >>

Comments: I did this one in '05. I was scared that I'd fall from the top, land on my pad and slide right down into the water. Good stuff.

Comments: There's a boulder I recognize...I really do need to get back up there one of these days.
Sam, I've done that same traverse starting way left several years ago, it does add some nice moves.

Here's a pic from 2005 of my friend Jake on that.

Comments: Patch, I have no idea. I don't know where these boulders are in relation to the roped climbing at BM. I don't even know where the Bur Oak Trail is located. Guess I'll have to do some exploring next time I get up there.
