Comments: I agree with Jon. I've always finished the route the same as in the photo but there's no way it's a 10a sequence.

Comments: Less than 10 minutes if you're camping for free on the BLM land south of town. It's maybe 15 to 20 minutes depending on your campsite in the Reserve.

Rock City is a nice little store at the south end of town where you turn to drive up into CoR. They have plenty of beer and make pizza and sandwiches too. It's a nice place to hang out after a day of climbing. You can also access the wifi from the BLM office nearby. You'll need to register for it and they'll give you 30 minutes a day for fr... more >>

Comments: Pretty lame. The BLM should be able to track down these asshats.
For $10 you can buy as much scrap wood as you can stuff in your vehicle at the lumber mill north of Canon City. Just get there before they close at 6.

Comments: Pete, I do that too when posting new (to the site) routes.

I think the heel hook is key to getting your hands in the right spot, but releasing the hook and establishing yourself above the roof....ugh.

Comments: Mike,
Are you sure it wasn't the park people? They've cleared cliff line vegetation in the past. If it was climbers then that is seriously not cool.

C'mon people. Don't screw this up for everyone.

Comments: I think Apollo's would be the red line. My comment under the route name "Slab of the Wasp" was for the green line, at least that's the line I mentioned doing several years ago.

Comments: We got out just in time to miss 10 inches of snow about 5 years ago. This was in early April. You just never know.

Comments: It's been a few years, but I recall this route not being anything exceptional with the belay stance sloping and surrounded by cactus. Watch your rope when you pull it.

Comments: This line is actually named "On a Roll" (5.9+). Depending on what side of the arete you choose, it can be made much more difficult. I had a hard time finding any path that was less than mid 5.10.

Comments: The top rope setup is basically the same as for The Layback. You get two great routes out of one setup. Falcon guidebook says .10b, which is sandbagged IMO. Good fun, though.

Comments: Not a very good route IMO. Surmounting the roof is a grovelly hump and mantle with no footholds.

This was our last route of the day so maybe I was just tired but this felt more like an 5.11 to me.

Comments: Really fun stuff. As a 5.8 this felt much harder than Skyline or Rye Crisp.
On the rappel my 60 meter rope left us a few feet shy of the ground on the ramp...70 meter rope not needed.

Comments: Last week at Nautilus I met a roadtripping climber from Montreal (didn't catch his name). He was shorter than me (5'10") and said he had been working the route, calling the crux 5.13+.

Comments: Looks cool. I've been spying that line for years thinking it would be a nice addition to this buttress.
