Comments: This is the original route up the arete. 5.9+ is a sandbag too, more like mid to upper .10. Lichen No Other should be deleted from the route database as a duplicate.

Comments: Did some crystals break off? I thought the upper section was extremely reachy and difficult for 5.11. IMO probably 5.11d or 5.12a for anyone under 6 feet tall.

Comments: I didn't stem and thought the section above the first bolt was 5.8+. Kudos to the old schoolers climbing that with 2 bolts. I was thoroughly spooked until I got to the second (current) bolt. Take a .75 Camalot for the horizontal crack down low if you want piece of mind.

A 70 meter rope reaches the ground with just a few feet to spare.

Comments: IMO this is the best route on Moonlight Ridge. Between a few rest stances, navigate the best path through an assortment of crimps and sidepulls.

Comments: I'm going to be climbing in the Mt. Rushmore area in a few weeks. Does anyone have suggestions for campgrounds? I know about Wrinkled Rock but I've done enough dirtbagging over the years so when I get the chance, I prefer campgrounds with running water and level ground. Yeah, I must be getting soft.

I've camped at Horse Thief before and liked the location/convenience but they're booked up. Does anyone have suggestions for similar campgrounds in the same general area?

Comments: Pete, that section did look unprotectable which is probably why someone thought it needed a bolt. My friend and I didn't climb the route, we just noticed it as we were checking out some others routes.
I'm not sure if any of the park staff is knowledgeable about bolts (or if any of them even climb) but hopefully this is an isolated incident and won't affect climbing access. That said, the bolt should be removed as soon as possible. I'll gladly do it if I get back up there this year.

Comments: So who's the idiot that put a bolt in the middle of the slab section half-way up this route?

Comments: This is a nice route with nice vertical climbing on good holds. Much of this area has been "landscaped" by the Park staff to remove saplings and small trees. No bush-whacking necessary.
