Comments: When we started running into (and not over) those birds while driving on dirt roads at night I thought they were funny looking owls, but upon closer inspection I knew they weren't. I was happy to find out what they are called, as it's amazing how well they camouflage themselves into their surroundings, like your partner did. Bravo, Doug!

Comments: Felt the crux of P-2 was a bit spicy- stepping on small balls, thoughtful pro, and delicate climbing up a thin seam- 5.6??? Really??? Rock was solid at least, and it was pretty fun, and eased up nicely after the crux.
Edit to add: Pitch 4 is mostly 4th class to easy low 5th class, but fun! I only placed a couple of pieces just to keep the rope out of the crack. Only took about 5-7 minutes to top out on this pitch- a very stress free pitch.

Comments: Yes, having climbed both Black Magic, and Hot Flash I'd have to agree- similar rock quality issues, and a bit of an "adventure" feel to it. We Red Rock lovers like that, don't we. ; )

Comments: A BIG thank you to Roy Suggett for all the hard work that went into the creation of such a fine climbing area. We really enjoyed the both the trad, and sport climbs we did at the upper, and lower Jungle. After climbing we hiked to Powell Point, which was beautiful, and even spent some time camping & kayaking at Pine Lake. It made our weekend trip to your neck of the woods very worthwhile. Great memories- Thanks again!

Comments: Awesome. My friend throws elaborate Drag Queen parties here in Vegas, and some of the men are so damn beautiful all decked out. It's amazing how a little make-up, the right wig, and attire can change ones appearance.

Comments: The Crabby Appleton area is so scenic that it makes this 2 star climb worth doing. The approach nearing the route is scrambly, and has some short 4th, and low 5th class moves, and a couple of squeezes through holes to get to the base of the route. We started hiking in the afternoon, which gave us just enough time to do the route (in 4 pitches), and hike out as the sun set. We were in the shade the entire climb this time of year, which was nice. I don't recommend a late start if you're not famili... more >>
