Comments: We climbed this today and made it to the summit in three pitches (could be done in two). The lower crux section of pitch 1 was not super burly nor lacking good feet as I was expecting it to be per the supertopo guidebook description. Fantastic route, get on it!

Pitch 1: 200ish feet. Climb the layback crack (5.9), continue up the chimney and yet still continue in the right-leaning layback (5.9+) to the base of another chimney. Belay here, in the double cracks at the base of the chimney. (Th... more >>

Comments: Is this route misnamed? Isn't this the "East Face"? It has a scary offwidth at the top.

Comments: This route is R rated as you will deck if you fall getting to the second bolt.

Comments: The guidebook rates this as 10a R. While slightly intimidating, the gear is there. Bring lots of small cams, small offset nuts, and plenty of slings.

Comments: The first comment is extremely inaccurate. The smooth and clean corner provides for an excellent wide laybacking experience and, with the addition of the new bolted belay, is a great pitch to do on its own.

Comments: Here are some notes on the pitches we did. This information may not be entirely accurate since I did this route a couple months ago.

We started the route beneath a small roof.

P1: Step over the roof and onto a slab. Climb left to a crack in left facing corner. Climb up the corner a bit until the crack becomes too thin and difficult to climb. Traverse left and do an exposed step across (5.7) into a corner / chimney. Climb up the chimney to excellent face climbing on big jugs at the top of ... more >>

Comments: I agree that the climb is a good trad route. The gear is bomber underneath the roof. Above, the thin crack takes small nuts.

Comments: My partner Kia and I did this Saturday, April 19. We started the approach at 530AM and summited as the sun was setting.

The descent gully is a nightmare when its filled with snow. You'll have to rap the entire gully (7-10 rappels), down climb wet ledges, squeeze between the snow edge and the rock, and do other crappy stuff to get down it.

If attempting the Sentinel when there is snow in the gully, you may be better off rapping the route you came up, especially if you bring twin or double rop... more >>

Comments: This is a hard slab climb which involves big moves to small holds. There really isn't much smearing involved as one poster mentions, its more edging. The climb is technical and much more difficult to lead than toprope. It helps significantly if you are flexible!
