Comments: There are two routes that are within all the pictures seen here. I believe the one listed is straight up where the rope line is (see pic #1). I could be wrong, but it seems the comments are for the route to the right, which I believe is Prarie Dog.

Comments: IMHO - the crux is the first 15 - 20 feet.

Comments: Please let me lie down!!! And when you can, please delete these two comments I just put here. I looked briefly for the correction page and missed it. Everything is just fine on this page.... I am the one screwed up.

Comments: It's surprising that no one has caught this one. The picture shown is of Honky Jam Ass Crack, just climber's right (not counting the face in between) of Left Handed Jew.

Comments: Just spent some time there this last weekend: First time there in probably close to 10 years. I was amazed at the construction, organization, and overall appearance of the area now. There used to be only a handfull of established camp areas just outside the entrance to Penitente (where the big picnic area now sits). I always camped away from there, on the road that leads South West from the pay area. Even though I couldn't get a camp site, I was very impressed with all the work that has gone... more >>

Comments: Didn't mean to give it a bomb rating. I did the same for the other routes and have requested a change.

Comments: I have always known that outside route to be Mysterious Redhead as well. I was probably using the same guide book.

Comments: There is a rap route for those who don't like to down climb. Last I had seen, the first station was not bolted. I always found a nice, sharp piece of rock and doubled it over. rapped down about 60' to a two bolt station, then finished not to far off from where the trail meets the base of this crag. The rappel is pretty much down the Winter Route, in the book that Julian mentioned.

Comments: Note: Ratings are subjective!!

I have a couple guide books that show this is sent at 5.7+. I don't feel this is any harder than 5.8. It has a couple awkard stances that may produce the feeling of it being harder than it really is. This is in my opinion and no disrespect to Ben.

Comments: I'm not going to comment on any one particular route. From this page, if anyone pulls the drop down for the routes, you will see all the stars listed. A GREAT crag, despite the close proximaty to the road and it being so crowded.

Comments: I was just around that area this past summer and was able to gain access to Big Rock (although I didn't climb it) from both directions. From Turkey Rocks, just keep following the road West till you see the sign MatBerry gulch and go that route. It really is easier than what Hubbel's book describes....he just does it in great detail. Keep in mind this is a 4x4 road, and I don't mean a Subaru. Access from the East side gets you very close to the top of the rock. From the West, the Coral Creek... more >>

Comments: A sweeet climb here. Great beta from Steve....thanks. You can read all about it, but nothing compares to just climbing it. Pumpy climb that when finished, will keep you smiling for some time after.

Comments: As noted...this climb is on the right hand side of the area. Climb four bolts then the anchors on the unique Castlewood Conglomerate (nature's cement I call it).

Comments: I have a couple photos of this route, but why bother...just look at Anonymous's and you'll get the facts.

This is a great line and is a must do when visiting. Sold jams and placements make for a great few hours here.

Comments: Another one of my top five. Not so easy rest past the first bolt. Save your energy, but don't rest to long at the roof. The last moves are a bit pumpy.

Comments: Of course the ratings are subjective, but this one is on my top five out at Castlewood. Below the crux: A left foot high in the hueco, right foot underneath on a knob - Left hand to the right of the left foot......grunt and shoot the big knob. Another Tom Hanson classic.

Comments: Good introduction to the climbing in Moab. Not to hard, but gritty and good. A little exposed getting to the anchors, but take the step and give a yelp.

Comments: A nice route that sees little action, as there is not much else around. Done for the day? On your way out stop by and give it a shot. Watch out for the bees in the summer, to the right of the route.

Comments: A climb I have done many times, and it always gives me a thrill moving through that crux. Great lunch spot on the small ledge, just before the crux.

Comments: A great climb. Comfortable all the...way....uh...OH!!! there goes the crack. Nice friction climbing at the end and an exposed little step left.
