Comments: You should definitely consider placing a small-to-medium piece at the undercling flake above he 2nd bolt. The runout to the 3rd bolt is gauranteed ground fall and somewhat spicey.

Comments: I thought this was quite hard, actually. The start of pitch 2 was datardly - wide, deep crack with kinda hard-to-spot feet. Then again, that's why I climb JT - too be scared shitless on easy moderates! Haha!

Comments: Topped out with some dudes from Mazama who were road-tripping with Fred Beckey! They showed us some vid clips on their nice camera of Fred rambling about all kinds of whacky shit. Tramped down to find Fred in the parking lot! Holy Shit! What a day!!!

Comments: Not sure but that crux section looks like it's had a lot of "shedding" going on. Anyone who climbed it a few years ago been on it recently? I'd be interested to know if the crux has gotten harder. As it is, I think it fits the rating pretty well - though I would never lead it with the protection available now.

Comments: After the crux leaving the bolted belay, I stayed left instead of crossing over Dappled Mare. There as some interesting slab in there that made me nervous when the wind kicked up. Protectable the whole way and ran to the top with a 70m rope. Anyone else done that? It was worth doing, for sure.

Comments: "5.8, my ass!," said my wife on pitch 1. "5.8, my ass!," I thought on pitch 4. Seriously, I've done some slab climbing and that 4th pitch through the well-protected slab section seemed quite a bit harder than 5.8. Ah well.

And I second a two rope rappel. We were on a 70m rope and it was a testy three-rappel descent. But the climbing was AWESOME!!!

Comments: Scott, did you finish this one?! Thanks for the credit in the photo. I still remember being up there on "virgin" rock, even if it was only for a few feet! Yeee haw!

Let's get out again soon!

Comments: I got on this one in November 2006 and took a 35ft ground fall, resulting in a broken sacrum, helicopter ride, surgery, and 3 months without walking. I thought the protection was solid on my way up but had three pieces come out on the way down - a #2 BD in the big horizontal, #1 BD in the hand crack, and a small blue metolius in the small roof crack below the bolt. Essentially, I failed to notice that the bomber hold right of the crack and bolt was what I should have been gunning f... more >>

Comments: I didn't lead it. In fact followed as the 3rd climber, but the climb was still loose as I went up it. Tough to protect after the initial section, and critical footholds shedding will make this harder and harder, methinks. March 2008.

Comments: A secure webbing rap station has been added to avoid downclimbing the 4th class from the ledge. Head climber's right about 50 yards of Bird Of Fire. A 60m cord drops you right at the base of the trail.
