Comments: Look out. There is loose block above the pin that looks like a good gear placement. It's not, and it's about to come off.

Comments: I was wondering how long it would take for someone to post this area. Back in 1997 to 1999 by roommate and I cleaned and developed many problems in this area and along with other areas on the AT. I have a mini guide someplace that we wrote up. I'll see if I can find it. I know there were climbers on some of these boulders before us because we would find random rusted pitons on top that someone may have used as a top rope anchor but most of these problems had vines growing over them. There a... more >>

Comments: Somehow I fell out of the handjam over the roof on P2 yesterday, I think someone pushed me but not sure. Anyway I took a nice whip on the pin under the roof and it held strong. I did have it backed up with a small cam, but all the force was on the pin. Drop test complete on the pin, at least for a little while longer.

Comments: Skied out and climb the far left climb yesterday 2/11/07. 1 pitch of ice and 2 of snow. There is more ice higher on the route, but it is very thin with possible avalanche danger getting up to it. The route to the far right was very rotten looking. Conditions now are not worth the ski out unless your looking for a good adventure.

Comments: We used the Deer Mtn Junction trail as well. We did not leave any gear at the base, so when we topped out, we just hiked southwestish through the woods for 5 or 10 mins till we met back up with the trail. This was a great way to descend.

Comments: We had three people climbing yesterday and a 70m rope. The second was able to tie into the middle of the rope and the third at the end. Then we were able to rap to the ground with the 70 and did not have to worry about the down climb like when you rap with a 60.

Comments: This route has cleaned up a bit, but still be heads up for rock around the route. As the guidebook says, "it's better than it looks." Like the rest of the 5.10s in this area and noted above, it is soft for its grade. If you're wanting to climb the route this time of year, get on it early because it loses sun mid morning. The 3rd/4th (5th for some) class traverse kind of sucks with packs on, so you may want to rack up before you make the step across.

Comments: We climbed at the Monastery this weekend for the first time. I fell in love with the place. The climbing is so different from the rest of the climbing around the area. It takes a little time trusting the pebbles your pulling on although the possibility of a hold breaking and sending you on a meat (or tofu) grinding fall should always be in the back of your mind. Climb smart. With this said sending a new leader up on one of these climbs could end with an unhappy camper (climber). Many of th... more >>

Comments: I thought this route was great. This was my first visit to the area, so I was a little nervous about the climbing at the start of the day, but I quickly figured it out. The routes just got better as the day went along. The Steeple, I felt was 3 star pebble pinching. Once you get over the possibility that the pebble your holding or standing could break and send you on that cheese grater fall you always fear, and just enjoy where your at and what your doing. The whole experience is amazing.

Comments: The route felt on the easy side of 5.9 to me and the pro is great. The crux is short and the finger crack at the end is really fun. There are some small foot holds that, if used, decrease the difficulty.

Comments: ROCK FALL WARNING!!! There has been some major rock fall at the north buttress of West Ridge, right of Chockstone and left of Xanadu. There are still some rocks coming down. I could not tell if any routes were damaged but there is dust all over the face.

Comments: We wanted to walk in on the tracks today, but there are still a lot of work crews up there and train supervisor types hanging around. I don't know if that approach will be an option for while.
