Comments: Kinda hard to resist clipping that anchor before the final big move to the huge jug.

Comments: One could reasonably call this the first crux. Or even the crux if you decide to bail left at the real crux.

Comments: I liked this climb - very physical and unusual and held its interest all the way to the finishing clips. I like Bill's comment about using jams - that's the first time I've done hand jams on a sport route.

Comments: What a fantastic climb. Lots of cool steep face moves on good holds with a reachy crux right at the top.

Comments: The first time I ever did this route I was surprised by how thin the horn actually was.

Comments: It's very common for rocks, stones and other articles (belay plates, etc.) to come bounding the the buttress at the Graham Crackers area. A helmet is a good idea, even when kicking back at the bottom.

Comments: Hmmm - Not what I usually expect for a 5.6 (i.e. not a romp, so don't be a first time 5.6 leader).

Comments: Good advice Ryan - and I should've read it before I got on this variation, I put a big Friend (#5) in the horizontal before I pulled the face moves up and left to the seam, then backed right off mistakenly thinking that the seam would be that void of protection for its entire length, if I'd have stuck with it I would have found that after a few moves the seam becomes a nice slot with plenty pro options in the size stated by Ryan.

I think I was influenced by it being a very hot slippery d... more >>

Comments: I really liked the ridge traverse, pity it doesn't get a more eloquent description.

Comments: I have removed the dead links for the Inyo permits as Recreation.gov now handles these, and it's a better system as you can see what's available instead of having to wait for the mail to find out if you got the permit or not.

Comments: I wonder if the luminaries who closed this area understood that other crags hereabouts (SoCal) would be adversely impacted? Scientists tend to wear blinkers.

Holcomb Valley Pinnacles comes to mind.

Comments: Climb the thin corner crack to the bomb bay undercling, then steps left onto the face under the overlap, then over the overlap and up the much easier face.

Comments: Did it back in 1986 with a couple of other guys I met in the Sierra (Bob and Pat), took us two days to get to the summit then half a day to the bottom of the Tram. We stayed the night in the summit hut, carried skis up and tried to ski down the back side. Conditions were horrible, crust over powder over hard ice, with hard ice at the summit pitches.

But of an epic but glad I did it.

Comments: Hi Nick - oh yes, I don't think there was a guidebook back when I was there, I'm assuming there's one now, I remember climbing some huge dihedral....
