Comments: Fantastic route! We found the start of the route pretty easily (apparently, we're above-average bears) and climbed the first two pitches pretty smoothly. Note, we used a 70 meter rope and both pitches were within 5m of the end. A 60 might require some careful management. From below the giant boulder, it's another pitch and a bit to the summit. Great, consistent rock, fantastic positions, and certainly no traffic. Never hard, but never easy. If it wasn't for the somewhat arduous approach a... more >>

Comments: Interesting, but a little contrived and grungy with a lot of groveling. The holds on this route are also a big contrast from the routes elsewhere on the rock.
As for finding the route, start at the awkward bulge about 10' left of a huge iron eye-bolt at ground level. Moving straight up from the eye-bolt gets you to a much lower pair of cold shuts on what looks like an easier line.

Comments: Strange mix of dead easy and a couple of hard (bona fide 5.6, IMHO) moves. Nice view from the anchor ledge. A few loose blocks remaining on this one, but a bit more traffic would solve that problem.

Comments: As of about ten years ago, there was a hangerless 1/4" bolt a few feet right of the crack part way up the off-width. I have no idea if it would hold a fall, but it made me feel (marginally) better to sling it with a small nut on the way up this otherwise unprotected pitch.

Comments: The way the snow is clinging to those overhanging rocks, I'm guessing there's significant camera tilt here ;-) Great shot from Scottie, as usual.

Comments: Early in the season, this starts out as a 10' pillar far to the left of the flow. It's not much, but the pillar is fun. Eventually, a curtain forms below the slabs to the right of the pillar and a longer pitch is possible.

Comments: A nice warm-up for later climbs. Second half of the climb is a bit runout (no protection), but very easy. By the time you're in ground-fall territory, you're in 4th class terrain.

Comments: The Heil-Hall connector is partially built already and will be completed in the very near future. Funds for this are not an issue.
As for the Eldo-Walker connector, I'm always in favor of more trails, but I don't necessarily see the need for this one. Recently, a number of foot traffic only trails (Dowdy Draw and Flatirons Vista in particular) have been opened to bike traffic and I don't see why we can't do this with the existing Eldo-Walker connector. It would a very nice (and very challeng... more >>
