Comments: Great photo! Though just for reference, these climbers are approaching the base of Karsten's Ridge while the Coxcomb feature is two thousand feet higher (or so) near the top of Karsten's Ridge.

Comments: This climb is basically 5.9+ or 5.10- with the first twenty feet or so being a more solid 5.10. Two or three times I felt pretty advantaged being taller (6'2) though, especially at the beginning...

Comments: Follow Shapp's advice - the left crack is protectable, straight forward, less rope drag, and cleaner rock.

Comments: I'm 6'2 and thought the low crux on this route was brutal. Very hard for 11b, the middle and upper parts of the route are awesome!

Comments: This is probably one of the best 5.9 gear pitches I've ever done - anywhere. A must do.

Comments: I reached the first move statically (I'm 6'1), and so did my climbing partner - with much more effort - at 5'8. Even if you have to leap for it, it's amazing.

Comments: Super fun climb. Didn't use any gear bigger than .75 and the placements sound a little hollow down low. There is an anchor (new?) immediately at the top of the climb on the left that keeps the anchor to the right free for other climbs.

Comments: Awesome route. A point of clarification ... there is a separate anchor for this climb located 5 ft to the left of the Quarryman anchor.

Comments: My buddies and I committed to cleaning up the Butte everytime we climbed there. Bring a plastic bag and don't leave til it's full. If everyone does it ... it makes a difference.

Comments: You don't have to register in Talkeetna, but you do need a wilderness permit from the Backcountry desk at the Park Headquarters.

Comments: If you're approaching the standard (Sunrise/Sunset) way, get off the bus at Eielson Visitor Center
