Comments: I think the question goes more toward where this wall actually is. "Down-valley" is a little vague as the Black Wall terminates the upper portion of the Chicago Lakes basin/ravine/valley; semantics really, the whole area is on Spaulding anyway.

The technical alpine rock climbs here in the Evans Wilderness are really unsung for CO -- maybe until now.

Comments: I knew someone was gonna start pegging this area, congrats to Rob. Looks like there's a .14 waiting in the wings.

Not to mention, there's plenty more to be had in this area -- Here you go REAL!

Comments: I guess I could understand the point about using resources effectively, but we're talking about some boulderers getting together and cleaning up their mess. So the resource being offered is really on them; whether they get together and go to Morrison for the afternoon & recreate or go to the wilderness and do a clean up; there isn't much, if any, additional resource put to use by other agencies. The stuff being cut & pasted are just recommendations.

Seems to me, one of the p... more >>

Comments: It's just a volunteer deal, so where's the waste of resources? It's not as if the taxpayer foots the bill for this.

Comments: Caleb - Yes, access/trespassing is prohibited there currently by private property owner. Highwire & some others will offer you some moderates; Creekside is a fun crag, plus you won't get charged for a technical rescue there should something happen & you get a fun tyrol.

Comments: Well, can we say that this climb could easily get into Grade III+ due to various factors outside of the technical characteristics?

It is certainly not a route to take lightly but is a fine route in any respect.

Comments: Met him briefly at a Hera event that benefited women climbers,

"No spray. No ego. Just a very decent guy doing what he loved."

That was him, just a great climbing spirit & person.

(ps - I'm not the Mark that Richard is referring, didn't mean to seem like I was if you all read the flow of these posts)

Comments: Went back and redid the section on seconding & figured out what my problem was. I'll revise to go to 3 stars & 5.8+ for the direct line through the overhang, a physically great section for the crux, wonderfully fluid hand jams. A #5 is a piece you'll not regret bringing along.

Comments: I don't see what the problem is here with the fee.

I'm glad we get the adjusted annual now. I think that's a better benefit than the cost increase.

Rangers not working to manage the natural resource?? huh??
Rangers in Eldo & the Wood & 11-Mile Res hassling climbers for being climbers?? triple huh??

Then, getting pissed because you didn't take the time to get your dmv tag updated??? (yea, I've gotten popped too; but I screwed up, I blame myself)

So, what exactly is the problem with... more >>

Comments: James, I guess a concern I have is the second rap & 50m single:

"2) Find the slings at the top of the West Chimney and rap ~100' down the gully to a big tree with slings."

With a single 60m you almost to come out of the system to grab the rap slings on that tree, it's a difficult position to attain. I don't see a single 50m working, but maybe I'm missing a station that could work??
