Comments: Yo John, I'd probably go with LR.

Some info from Lyle about the place:

They have a private room downstairs, if we have overflow we can open the doors and utilize the main floor. They have an impressive selection of beer (good micros and unique brews) and a menu that has the following catagories appetizers, salads, sandwiches, fishetarian, vegitarian, burgers, tacos & subs. The night we selected should be a bit quiet and we will be isolated from the regular crowd upstairs.

Comments: It seems we are all rehashing the same info; certainly the retro-bolted cave & goal-post anchors have caused & continue to cause some confusion.

Is there anything with the beta photos that I put up that is mis-leading to someone new to multi-pitch climbing that might have an anchor safety concern? (Other than the bolts next to the tree having a problem, but have since been replaced, correct? -- the bolts next to the small tree have indeed been replaced; for those that may b... more >>

Comments: Initial meet was small & mostly going over organizational setup.

I think some of us felt the best way to do this is to have something that would be enthusiastic & hands-on; like get-together(s). I think we've got something slated for later in July, like a social but a little more than a beer night.

If all we do is get together and pound on policy issues, doing this coalition just won't be enjoyable. Not that it's not important, but having mtgs & attacking policy just hasn't been ver... more >>

Comments: More info:

The Access Fund is currently organizing a public climbers' meeting to facilitate the formation of a Denver area climbing organization. This local climbing organization, or Affiliate, will be a conservation and stewardship liaison with Denver Mountain Parks, NFS, and BLM; a local version of the Access Fund. It will be a grassroots organization run by local climbers concerned with improving climbing access in the Denver Metro and Front Range Areas.

All climbers are welco... more >>

Comments: Reeder & Maceyka - 1985, brought 2 cams, Reeder used 1 of them (climbing free). They didn't want to report it because, at that time, it was taboo to admit to the use of cams.

Comments: Paz, I hear where you're coming from. The problem policy is with lands that are outside of a "city" where Dvr Mtn Parks has their land inventory in the mountains and does have technical rock.

It's complex to try and work on access with the city; let's meet about it and see what the AF has in mind. Unfortunately, the last attempt to try and do something really met with apathy on all sides. I don't see much policy changing with a main focus on the upcoming convention; but if ... more >>

Comments: The area that the lambing occurs is pretty obvious from the Summit Lake Col; you can easily see the mass impact of people to the animals. Probably won't matter much this year as we have a friggin' ton of snow up there now.

Comments: There's some fun stuff here.

Please keep our impact to a bare minimum, be totally cool with everyone else that plays in this park, keep approach traffic on the paths, do not encroach on wetlands, & don't install any new fixed anchors without checking with the OS people.

There's some good climbs that have natural seams for trad & rope anchors if you wanted to play with some TR'ing & bouldering. It's a fun place with good scenery and fairly small approach commitments.

Comments: I still haven't verified if 2x50M will work from the top face bolts to get you back to the first ledge finishing P1, though I think that's why you get those cave bolts, because a 50 works with that on the climb up but won't let you get to the original trad ledge for P3.

Or, whether a single 70M will allow a rap from the cave to go 35M okay to the climber's right bolts above first ledge. (This is where people come out of the system on descent with a single 60M, it's a scary thing).

The only re... more >>

Comments: As seen from this pic, there is a fair amount of blocky rock with crappy, vegitated, & insecure "cracks". The sporty lines are good, but the trad climbing is lichen covered and chossy at most times. The mid-belay is under an overhang and offers good shelter should the leader send some bombs down.

I found the center line could go at greater than .5 if you stay left (but still use the center line), though lichen & flarey pro in potentially loose blocks, made the whole thing to be desired. I'd eve... more >>

Comments: We've gotten notice to reconvene the OS Climbing Task Force this fall to discuss CCC. As of this time, the overall guidelines for climbing has a prohibited item for tyrols under the item for Access (pgs 7-8):

Tyrolean traverses are prohibited unless approved in the site specific climbing management plan

If you do install a tyrol that is subsequently removed by the rangers, they said they will return it to you. Contact the OS office.
