Comments: More near Rogers Peak, kinda betwixt the West aspects of Goliath & Rogers; probably better to say it's just these hunking spectacular granite slabs well above the CC Reservoir, hidden in plain view.

Comments: Something that probably should have been posted for this area a while ago. I thought about it, but never really gave it much an effort at passing the info along although some of the rangers probably could have done a better job of it. This is with respect to sport climbs.

Fixed pro in this area is outside of the permissible uses for the mgt plan for this park, which this PMP is probably still being a working draft. There are some small crags that have a few TR anchors, but these are basically c... more >>

Comments: I heard it was the same guy that was stuffin M-80s up all the baby falcons' butts out on the Sunshine Wall; either that or I was hittin the heat again and Kirks saw another ascent.

(I actually like this picture -- it's been a while since this area been that green.)

Comments: no spotter??
That's just sick!

(as any boulderer will tell you, you're off route, your left hand is supposed to be 3" more to the right. And, that's not the correct route name. And, you can't climb it anyway, it's only for real boulderer-er-ses. And, you're ruining my wilderness experience, etc etc etc)

Comments: Latest update (6-12-09) called for the end of the effort. The mountain seems to be too dangerous in order to work safely.

Nice event in Estes last night. You all did a good thing in an incredibly short amount of time.

Comments: Bringing closure is important, but let's look to the safe return of everyone at this point given unstable conditions. For a lot of us, these things are never over until the sar effort safely ends. Micah can be brought home another day.

In light, I assume the event in Estes is still on; was planning to try and make it up there.

Comments: Allen, it looks like this print is about as good as I can get it. I'll put another vantage up also under Fair Use to show how almost timeless this area is.

Comments: From: The Shattucks of South Elk Creek, David P Nelson, 2008. Winner Adult Long Essay, Historically Jeffco Magazine.

"...History along South Elk Creek is rooted in the emergence of Pine where the North Fork of the South Platte collects its waters. The laying of track for Denver, South Park & Pacific Railroad brought about great changes, spurring activity in logging, ranching, and mining. The first ventures into South Elk Creek occurred from the bottom up, not down from Shaffers Crossing. From ... more >>

Comments: Mainly because Western Diamondbacks aren't indigenous to this area and the picture has the markings indicative of a Prairie which are common in our area; also gets called Western or Prairie Western (Crotalus viridis).

The Western Diamondback (Crotalus atrox), you won't see those in CCC unless someone brings it there; and it probably won't make it for very long. The diamond markings are more defined, and, though Diamondbacks have a patternless species, you don't get those br... more >>

Comments: I believe Hanson & partner to remain unnamed had the distinct pleasure of having the ledge fall away during a stint back in the '60s. You might be able to see the piton scar from the attempted heli rescue in which his partner's harness exploded during a tyrol to the opposed canyon wall. I believe they survived but a teddy bear did take flight; inspiring the opening sequence for the historically accurate movie about mtn rescue, climbers, base jumping, drugs, money, feds, and the women w... more >>

Comments: Looks? Looks easy?!?!?

What if I should spill my PBR on my next attempt? Don't you realize the technical fortitude & danger of this entire route?? Surely, you must appreciate the level of commitment it takes to send this elite grade.

looks easy...

Comments: Tempermental mountain that requires permission from the highest authority; one of those where you sneak up, play position, and quickly & quietly leave. Great route for snow & ice climbing but not worth your life.
