Comments: Dale Haas and I replaced the two protection bolts and two anchor bolts with 3/8"x2.25" SS Powers/Rawl 5-piece bolts. We added quicklinks and rappel rings to the anchors. This work was sponsored by the American Safe Climbing Association (www.safeclimbing.org). They appreciate your support.

Comments: Dale Haas and I finally got around to replacing the anchors on top of Skimbleshanks, Old Deuteronomy, Mungajerry, Rumple Teaser, Mr. Mistoffeles, Gumby Cat, Jellicle Cats, and Grizabella with 1/2" stainless steel(SS) Powers 5-piece bolts and SS Petzl hangers. We added 3/8" SS quick links and SS rappel rings to all the anchors. We also added 3/8" SS quick links and SS rappel rings to the anchor on MacCavity which was recently replaced. Comments: As a bit of additional information, it appears that a lot of the bolts Richard Rossiter used up at Avalon are actually 10mm and not 3/8". These bolts use a 10x1 nut which is the reason why my 3/8" nuts wouldn't work on the hangerless bolt. Luckily, McGuckin's carries the 10x1 nuts in both SS and plated.

Comments: Ron Olsen and I replaced the first bolt on the arete start. We wanted to use the original stud/bolt, but the threads were damaged and a new nut could not be put, safely, on the existing stud.

Comments: This is a great climb! If you want to keep the difficulty at the 5.6 level when you get up to small roof at the top of the thin crack on pitch 1, traverse right around the corner. If you go left, that leads to the poorly protected 5.8 mentioned above. If you do go right, you will encounter several fixed pitons on your way to the first belay ledge. Note that the pins are hard to locate, so keep your eyes peeled.

Comments: Don't watch that video if you want to learn proper crack climbing technique. That was a major thrash which would not have been necessary with proper technique.

Comments: Watch out for rope drag on the pitch three as you traverse underneath the big roofs and around several sharp corners.
