Comments: I feel this climb lends itself to a 2 bolt crux starting at 5.9 and finishing @ 5.10 then run to anchors. The ledge detracts from the climb but so what? When everything is backed up (Lunchmoney), it's a good climb to do and away from the masses!

Comments: Pulling the first clip is the hardest move. The rest is 5.5.... If you DON'T climb it using the LEFT side of the dihedral, you get a good feel for what 5.7 leading should feel like! Also this should be a Trad climb!

Comments: Solid 10 to 10+ face climbing with (2) 11+ cruxes and some spicy clips lands this an awesome route!

Location: CO : Golden : Clear Creek Canyon : The Canal Zone : Gondolier Arete (5.10-) By: Brett Bauer When: Aug 20, 2009 | view comment >> |
Comments: Crux move: everyone in my party moved to the right of the bolt. I think that move might go at 5.10. I found to the left and on the arete proper to go at maybe 10 also but more fun because you are on the arete! Either way both moves are fun, but like others say easier climbing to the one move make it more like 5.9.

Comments: really fun climb but while leading I fell when foot hold broke off below 3rd bolt and partner peeled also with handhold peeling off! lots of crumbling under feet and hands makes for weary climbing, I think I will try it again staying more right, once climbed a bit and cleaned off it will be interesting to see how this climb unfolds! Bring helmet/safety goggles for now!

Comments: I believe this is the 4th route from the left and looks like the cleanest line?

Comments: Just a quick comment regarding "runouts" and "Protects Well"I climbed this and was 100% on route. The only places I found to "protect well" were the easiest sections... I say easiest meaning 5.0 to 5.5 and I understand the climb is only 5.5 but when you run out a solid 20+ feet and are confronted with 15 ft more of pure slab it feels more difficult knowing you have a 60+ potential fall should the very odd chance you fall!! so I personally would not call this climb a "protects well" climb. Comments: This is a great route for an autumn jaunt or avoiding crowds in summer on a weekday! To avoid retracing route I simply drop south directly to the car.. this allows for a quick circuitous route. Be it known that dropping south off the summit is steep and loose!!! I had a tragedy on moonlight ascent in November with Ice and snow (partner fell to the North when a watermelon sized rock pulled off!!!) other times I've done this with my hands in the pockets... you can make it more difficult if you ch... more >>
