Comments: Hey Joe!
Sorry, but that undercling on the first pitch (with the slippery feat) is definitely solid 5.10 something. The upper offwidths are scary and exposed, and the single bolt on the route is questionable (as of 2003). So in my humble opinion, you better be way solid at the grade (5.10), in order to do this climb. I bet Greg Opland will agree.

Comments: Greg's opinion is probably the correct one. One wide piece of gear is you aren't climbing far beyond this grade. Otherwise, there are lots of face hold inside the offwidths, thus lessening thier severity (and the need for wide pro).

Comments: Skip the bolts. Cheers for old-school 5.7!!!
If you want, you can bring some gear and set up a top rope. No shame in that.

Comments: Narliest sandbag at Pinnacle Peak. Watch out for the Cholla in the upper part of the crack, and be sure to flip off the rich golfers at Estancia Country Club right behind the climb.

Comments: This is one of the greatest begginer climbs in central AZ. Super fun. I just hope that this area doesn't become some rich non-climbers backyard someday. I grew up here, did my first free-solo here, and hope to return to climb here again in the future.

Comments: This was the first climb I ever did (other than the headwall, which my friend made me solo on my first time climbing). It used to have 3-4 manky bolts in the late eighties/early nineties (which I'm sure Greg Opland can attest to), and the free rappel is always fun to bring the first-timers on. If you want, there is a cave on the back (north) side of the monk's head that you can hang out in - which I did many times as a kid. Bring a beginner up here and they will be hooked.

Comments: I onsighted the first pitch today (I have to brag 'cause I'm stoked) and it is awesome - good pro and your fall will be clean at the crux. However, the final move to the belay is f@&*ing desperate. I seriously almost puked. The only other place that this might be a 5.10a is at Vedawoo. So, sweet climb, but a definite sandbag. Jim Erickson is a bad ass. Oh, and the first 20 feet of the second pitch has some scary loose blocks. Cheers.

Comments: I haven't done this climb, but why are there bolts next to a crack? Any self-respecting (and perhaps tub-thumpin') trad climber would call this lame...

Comments: Classic climb. This is a great one to bring new climbers on. You do not need any off-width gear, as the off-width sections are short.

Comments: Good god, DO NOT solo this route when there is still a substantial amount of snow on the ground. You'll be climbing up a wet slab, only to be faced with snow, ice and water on the ridge traverse. Trust me, I know - I'm the idiot that found this out the hard way today. If you see me on the street, please smack me for being stupid. Thanks.

Comments: Really fun climb. A couple of notes: pro up to the detached block in the middle of the climb is a little sparse. This could be very scary if you're just breaking into leading 5.7/5.8 trad. Be prepared (guidebooks never seem to prepare you for this stuff). Also, the traverse into the climb (starting at the pipe) is a little sketchy. Do your best to protect the second, as a fall here could result in quite a ride.
