Comments: Whats the lowdown on all the new bolted lines around the wasteland route??? Also this crag should be called "Squid Dome" as the cliff looks much like the mollusk when viewed from the drainage...

Comments: FWIW a nice TR direct version is possible off the 1st anchor. Instead of going right at bolt, keep trending up ramp to an undercling and crimp your way straight up to rejoin the regular batline route. Adds about ten new moves. Group consensus was at 5.10-. Possible to lead but would be thin pro with big runout.

As for batline, 1st half or pitch one hardest move is reaching the anchor. Also recommend one long pitch, (with tricky move getting above 1st anchor)...gear after 1st anchor seemed spa... more >>

Comments: FWIW a buddy and I TR'd a line in between the unnamed 5.9 crack to the right and this route. We thought the climbing checked in at about 5.10+, feeling harder than the 10- on lead. Start as for the 10- and instead of trending left with obvious crack like holds, go straight up...fun moves using side-pulls and stemming to surmount the bulge.

Comments: Might be easy to 1st bolt but rock quality not quite stellar---a small tcu is useful to protect leader. A fall here would not be pretty.

Comments: Good problem with fun moves.

FWIW the block described at finish is not chert but rather a silicious tuff. Chert is silic-rich, mircocrystalline marine sedimentary rock.

Comments: Hmmm, well my team did not have trouble finding the trail.
M.H. is right there is not a well worn trough to the climb, but one doesn't have to battle cacti either...

Not sure about breaking up first pitch, its a long pitch as described in Kerry.
Pitch 2 as Kerry describes has three bolts and then good gear.
Pitch 3 as Kerry describes is crux and has a bolt near top of pitch.
4th pitch has lots of gear potential.
On last pitch, the leader can put in a bomber cam prior to committing to climbin... more >>

Comments: Totally agree this route is a bit bold.. as shown here in Kerry's Book going over the roof from the arching crack feature felt insecure and pro is thin. I climbed up crack line to right (start ~10ft) of arching crack feature and then traversed left (~20ft off deck) to rejoin route up to chain anchor, 5.9 (pro was a bit devious at roof)- bring gear to 3". For what is worth, we TR'd the original line up arching crack over roof and it f... more >>
