Comments: Darrin--my comments were for Bag of Tricks. I think it's hard to confuse the routes since Prairie Dog does not involve the corner or crack at all.

Comments: Jason--(and others)--just in case you didn't know.I (and Myke sorta ;-) have a full-time job, still climb after work, run before work (on occasion), and try to have a life outside of hours of maintenance and work on the site.

I already linked some of the pics you submitted so they will appear tomorrow, but it's impractical for download times and useful beta (where are the routes?) to add all 8 (or however many there are) to one page. If you draw topos of routes, then I could link t... more >>

Comments: When places like this pop up, they can only help alleviate crowding at the popular places so I wouldn't complain too much about people being excited (and wouldn't tell people to stop going there).

Comments: I agree, Andrew, that I'm not worked up or disturbed about the drilled holes on this route when I'm climbing it (since it did occur so long ago) but my intent of placing it on the modified route list was to back our stance of indiscriminate classification of modified routes. "Blacklisting" it was not meant to deter people from the climb, but just to make more people aware of the chipping issue on the whole.

Comments: I don't believe there are plans to begin the move until fall 2003, subject to funding.

Please see:

or "if you have any questions about this matter, or if you would like to obtain a hardcopy of the FONSI (Finding of No Significant Impact) , please contact Larry Gamble, the park's Chief of Planning and Compliance. He can be reached at (970) 586-1320."

Comments: I can't believe no one commented on the first rap. It was (to paraphrase from a Simpson's episode) the WORST RAPPEL EVER. YMMV, but I first threw our ropes into a patch of cactus, then they got tangled all to shit later by all the bushes and tree branches. It was really fun running our hands down the ropes four more times and getting cactus everywhere.

Great route, but not stellar.

Comments: From a site admin perspective, I think it's just great that all these people have the time and care to spend it reading about each new route and writing comments on them. Thanks for adding to the site, and Jeremy, don't take too much offense. See all the shit I took for adding a route (Unknown below Tony's nightmare in the ice DB) that I claimed was neither a FA or a new route that no one knew about.

Comments: I haven't done but a handful of mixed routes so don't take my word for it, but I think this is harder than M5 for the conditions when the ice doesn't start until after the angle decreases to less than vertical.

Comments: Mixed Feelings, Mo Flo than Go, Lochluster, et al in that area are thin. Blade Runner only has a tiny bit of ice at the top, but Mixed Feelings has some thin WI5 starting about 2/3 up the face (higher than in Brad's photo from 11/23/01). Bring your shorties.

Comments: A fixed TR anchor exists as some slings and biners 15ft left of the top.

Ice is not as fat as in the pic above from Feb 02, but quite wet and plastic. It should form up some more w/ colder temps here. The gully below is in the same soft condition, but neither are thin by any manner. Snow depth in the gully is low and conditions are stable from brief inspection (no weak interface layer).

Nice ice and hearty approach, but the I-70 traffic is a little annoying to hear all day long.

Comments: I don't agree that an R rating applies to this route. The crux is definitely moving past the first clip and is committing, but once the hard move is made, the second clip comes at a reasonable stance. I think a fall here would still keep you off the ground, but not while clipping.

Feels a little harder at the crux, but I think it's because of the committing move right at the first bolt.

Comments: I would probably rate this 11a/b w/out a stem. The crux moves can be done dynamically, and after that it's just a little pumpy.

Comments: I thought the crux was pulling the first overhang. After that, the moves are straight forward, even if strenuous. I agree w/ Bryson that tape is a really good idea. A lot of the jams are flared, but you can get a good bite on the sharp crystals with some tape (or your flesh).

I thought the overall experience on this one was great, but the rock quality isn't tops.

Comments: For the crag, it's 3 stars, even though it's short.

Good rests between the hard spots keeps the grade lower.
