Comments: I've got a few friends that solo'd that route 5 years ago... and they thought they weren't the first to climb it.

Comments: Cracked my head on the pointy rock in Skullcracker yesterday, spotters are required for the roll out of a fall. That rock wins in the brain bucket vs. hard rock battle.

Comments: Given that you're posting this "climb at your own risk", does it warrant a danger rating? i.e. pg-13?

Comments: It's been 7 years since I climbed this, I still don't have a redpoint, and it still scares the hell out of me. The hard moves are protected well, but still no evidence of others on it recently.

Comments: I was going to jump on this route today, but realized rather quickly that there appears to be a beehive in a pocket somewhere between the first and second bolts. I don't know if this is a crucial hold, but I decided it wasn't worth my time to find out!

Comments: I'd agree about stick clipping the first bolt if you're not confident in the grade - the first one's a doozy...

Comments: Fair and valid... I got out of this habit a few years back after (properly!) getting yelled at by many people. I've renamed the rock, and all associated information.

Comments: Does it merit a pg-13 rating since pro is hard, or are the actual placements good? I remember looking at this a while back, but I don't remember...

Comments: Was responding in general terms, and hopefully to dispel the question of whether or not 1/4" bolts are bomber (NO!). I have no idea if the bolts on the top of p2 are 1/4". It might be worth looking into. Anyone else know?

Comments: Rules of thumb:

1/4": bad. 3/8": good. 1/2": excellent. 5/8": sandstone (and still crossing fingers!) or used to hold buildings to their foundations in earthquake retrofits.

1/4" bolts are not a standard anymore, they're usually somewhat rusted out at this point, and look like they're a little bent.

Comments: I think that just barely squeaks under the 1 1/2" of acceptable butt crack.

Comments: That would be more than ok with me, until someone else complains or I get a phone call telling me to remove the area (which has happened before.)

Please modify the directions to say something like..

if you'd like to climb here, please email me, and I will give you the lowdown and directions to climb here, as there may be access concerns. Keep a low profile, and don't piss anyone off if you do decide to climb here.

Comments: Mountainproject.com is intended to share route and rock information with others, even those that aren't from the local area. Nathan, if you're not willing to share directions to your areas, and give exact details on how to get to the rocks that you've posted, I would suggest that you post your information elsewhere.

I know that rockclimbing.com is more than ok with this type of behavior (see the backyard boulders, among others), so perhaps this would be a better place to add them. It's too ... more >>

Comments: Nathan, it's nice that you're bagging all these "first ascents", but where exactly are all of these climbs? Nevada County's pretty big. What river are we seeing in the pictures? Please add some directions, or I'm going to delete your area...

Comments: This is one of the first routes I did in Yosemite, almost 10 years ago. I had major problems with the crux, and think I was crying by the time I finally got to the top of the climb!
