Comments: Preston, in the photo listed "great spot for the kids" you will see a block down and to the left of the climber. Directly under this is a thin slabby start (15 feet or so). In the photo, there is a round spot of lichen. I believe this start getting to that block is 5.11. Al

Comments: Location: If you drive west from Loveland 5 miles or so, you will come to County Road 29 (also Waterdale Drive). Turn north and follow the road for a mile or so untill you come to a bridge crossing the Big Thompson River. Find a place to park off the roadside. Walk west up the dirt road along the river. Spinal Tap is a green face across the river perhaps 75 yards west of the bridge. This climb is on Sylvan Dale Ranch property, a guest ranch, and permissions are required. They do have climbi... more >>

Comments: A classic photo. Most people dont know where this is. It is located on Sylvan Dale ranch about a half mile from the entrance to the Big T.

Comments: Comment appreciated. I too know many of the locals and continue looking for a house up there to become a local myself. I do know, however, that in the past "some" locals, some being the key word, were not happy about non-locals (climbers, hunters, four wheelers, etc.) using their road because of the very thing you pointed out ($40,000) in road maintainance from home owners fees and such. But the road is marked forest service access, so I assume that even though the locals maintain certain sect... more >>

Comments: Rob, glad you liked the route. You are correct, the extra (unneeded belay) was put in to facilitate two single rope raps. I'm not understanding your comment about the belay being at the top of Slipstream. There is a rap on the very top of Double 0 that is the same for Slipstream.

Comments: Led this the other day thinking it was the stiffest 5.7 I had been on in a while. Turns out it is 5.9. Note to self, bring my guidebook next time, but it was an exciting lead and fun.

Comments: In the photo posted here, F7 is the rightmost route. Left of Seven is just to the left in the photo. Both routes are seen and marked in the photo. In the corner of the wall just behind the routes in the photo is Trash Can (5.6) and the wall just left of TC is Every Which Way But Loose (technicaly a different face than F7 but only 15 feet around the corner).

Comments: I added Left of 7, because it is truly a separate route from F7. If someone know the real name (it does have one), post it and I will change it in the guide and title section.

Comments: Too funny. Hummmmmmmmn? Well, the first bolt is 15 feet or so up 5.8 climbing with an easy clip position. I figured two things in placing that bolt. First, if you can't get to that bolt, there is no way you can climb the sustained overhanging face above regardless if you call it hard 5.10 or 5.11. Second, this was the second climb that I ever bolted, and I had read a quote in one of John Long's books that his climbing philosophy was to place the first bolt high enough to "keep the riff-raff o... more >>

Comments: Just looked at the dome at 700N last weekend. I can't find anything published on it. I did spy two bolted routes, old, on the right face facing the circular parking area. I went to the back side and found my way to the top. One of the anchor bolts is missing. Across the road to the east where 700N turns off the main road, I found a bolted route on a boulder 200 yards from the road. I would like to know more myself.

Comments: Just remember, the Eiger North Face is a piece of choss as well, held together by ice. It's just that The Eiger is 6000 feet tall and in an awesome setting. As for Ironjohn, it's less chossy than it was in 1995 when I bolted it.

Comments: Just wanted to add a comment about the F.A. It says on top rope. It is true that Dave, Ned, and myself did a TR ascent of this back in 1992 or so. Not sure why I listed it that way, but when it was bolted in 2008, I led it as well.
