Comments: Michael, what I was attempting to describe the description is to move with your left hand first to get up through the grim little crimps. You are correct that the whole problems trends to the right as you climb it, and I can totally see how that is confusing. I'll update it to clarify.

Comments: This is a local's area with potential access issues if more folks started parking in the vicinity (the whole place could get shut down). Once the parking situation is handled, and the trash and graffiti is further cleaned up (it's come a long way since the place started getting developed), photos will be posted. Right now it would be cool, but not smart, to add pictures of this area.

Comments: Michael,
Conditions may be great, but the roads/gates to the LRT and Picnic might still be closed for the season. Mid April is usually the earliest the park opens the gates for the rest of the year. If the winter was mild, sometimes it can be earlier, but it is never guaranteed.

Comments: JordanB

The service at GHSP is dependent on your provider. If you have Verizon you can get decent signal at the entrance to the park, and at a few other spotty locations. Other providers have similar, or absolutely no signal anywhere in the area. I have heard from a few of the rangers that a new tower was put in near the park and that some signal (still Verizon) has improved, but I cannot speak to this as I was there a few days ago and the signal was still spotty. I hope this helps, and I'm hap... more >>

Comments: There are a handful of older established boulder problems scattered along Sharp Top Trail at the Peaks of Otter, but to my understanding there are some access issues pertaining to climbing in this area which has hindered development in the past. I am not sure if these access issues still apply, but it is worth keeping in mind. Although The Hill is technically under the same jurisdiction, a lot of the land at The Hill is owned by the Blue Ridge Parkway, so the majority there is good to go. If any... more >>

Comments: Jake,
Great to hear you like the guide! Thanks for the info on dogs/climbing at Stone too, the bouldering looks really good there (as well as the beautiful routes!). I need to make it out that way soon.

Comments: Stamos,
For dogs, I see them all the time at the bald, but I don't know the policy for Stone. As for the GHSP guide, I always recommend it. The areas are somewhat spread out in clusters within the park, so it can be really handy as opposed to trying to navigate only by mountain project. There are 350 classic lines shown in the guide, and almost 900 listed on MP, so it can make it much easier especially if you have never visited before. It will be pretty ambitious trying to fit in all 3 location... more >>

Comments: DoNstamos,
There is great camping within the park, but it is pretty costly if you are by yourself. I would recommend some of the national forest areas surrounding the park (you can find maps and locations on line with ease) that would be free to park and camp. The conditions are fairly temperamental during the spring, but with luck it will be a dry season and the climbing will be good. If you are used to the cold you'll be fine. The holds are pretty thin and most of the climbing is steep, so if ... more >>

Comments: Going with the consensus trend my man! If the other lines on the boulder and several in the area have settled to a lower grade (which usually happens over time) I figured why not? Especially since the "inglorious" stand went differently than how it was first climbed very soon after the FA of both problems (so no, nothing new or recent has changed). The new hold is cool and makes more since, but the hold and beta dropped the grade. I went through and adjusted the grades on popular VA boulders as ... more >>
