Comments: Rest! Hah! I am in too big a hurry to send this thing to take a rest. Falling. "Damn, I need to get stronger"!

I watched too guys work Goliath for months. They each had dozens of runs before they got up it. They were stronger than me by a factor of two but would not stay at a rest longer than 60 seconds. Heel hooks, wrist hooks, knee bars, thumb catches all these techniques can make the difference. Oh yeah, and lose 5 pounds.

Comments: Mark, I am pretty sure there were some fixed pins as I clipped them when I tried it in the 80's.

Hey John, perhaps a little pry bar work is in order. Same thing has happened to Holey Moley. I can fix that without a pry bar when I have a couple of minutes and I am in the area.

Comments: Retro bolted the 5.11R start to this route. Originally I did this climb by traversing in from the left (It Crack). Later I did the unprotected direct start. It is a really nice climb with the protected direct start. Although I think it may only be 11+. Look forward to what others think.

Comments: This thing was originally top-roped in '86 by me and Cyrena Goodrich but it was deemed "too short" and not bolted. Ah but times change. Jimbo and I bolted and lead it today. The real climbing may only be 30 feet long but it is fun and steep on good rock. We were both worked at the end of it.

Comments: I heard folks are climbing out right to avoid the crux of this climb making it more 12 than 13-. I pretty much went straight up then right to a big jug when we did it. This may be because I love aretes and had tunnel vision and missed an easier way through that section.

Comments: I have tried to convince folks there to camo the hangers and anchor hardware, so far to no avail. When the sun is at the right angle they just glow. Ticks can at least be brushed off.

Comments: Found the moves through the roof at the bottom to be awkward and unpleasant. The rest of the climb was really cool.

Comments: Hope I didn't come off cranky. He said he was new to climbing. I just wanted him to realize reading the descriptions can be helpful before and after climbing a route.

Comments: Or you could follow what the description says and walk back down to your packs. Many of the old trad routes have walk offs.

Comments: I only had 18 and skipped a number without feeling like I was in danger. I only had one for the anchors so I lowered from the carabiners instead of my own draws.

Comments: The route left of Trapeze is called Sparky Vision 5.12. Easy on the Beaver is as it appears in the guidebook. It looks like Easy was TR'd by Bob Murray so I don't know what Suzuki did. Not sure where I got the Suzuki info. Maybe Jbak or RR. It sounds from what JS wrote that Easy is what Murray TR'd. Go do all those things and see if you can figure it out Alex.

Comments: Hey Caitlin, I appreciate the beta. Sounds like what I tried the last time. I finally got back on it this weekend and did it facing left. If I grab a crappy two tiered crimp on the right face with my right hand, throw my left toe on the point just below the left hand jug I could rock on to it and easily reach the hold. Getting to the jug at the start of the crux is pretty interesting if you are short. The rest of the route was amazing.

Comments: This was one of the older thin steel SMC hangers being used for the anchor and it fractured along the bottom of the bolt hole. The rust showed that it had been this way for a while. about an eighth of an inch of un-rusted metal could be seen one the two fracture planes. This could have been very bad had the other one failed.

These were the old thinner gauge SMC hangers not the newer and quite usable ones. If you have not seen both it is hard to tell which ones you are clipping.

Comments: That is because you are so hard core Charles. I know I did the dihedral but don't recall if we went to the top. All in all I can say this climb is... I don't recall anything else.

Comments: Below about 3500 feet you will see them. Most of the climbing at this elevation is done during the winter months when it is colder. You can still climb this low if you can stay in the shade even as spring turns to summer.

Comments: Chossy rock at the start of the crack would probably hold if you fell on it but I wouldn't want to fall on it. On top of that you have to use hold that might break and force you to test it. This is an okay lead if you are a 5.10 trad climber but I wouldn't do it unless you are there and have a rack. A #4 Camalot is nice to have.

Comments: This route is on the far right side of the west face before you turn the corner. A steep reddish face is just left of the start. Good route with a tenuous start. The upper arete section is really good.
