Comments: Hey Caitlin, I appreciate the beta. Sounds like what I tried the last time. I finally got back on it this weekend and did it facing left. If I grab a crappy two tiered crimp on the right face with my right hand, throw my left toe on the point just below the left hand jug I could rock on to it and easily reach the hold. Getting to the jug at the start of the crux is pretty interesting if you are short. The rest of the route was amazing.

Comments: This was one of the older thin steel SMC hangers being used for the anchor and it fractured along the bottom of the bolt hole. The rust showed that it had been this way for a while. about an eighth of an inch of un-rusted metal could be seen one the two fracture planes. This could have been very bad had the other one failed.

These were the old thinner gauge SMC hangers not the newer and quite usable ones. If you have not seen both it is hard to tell which ones you are clipping.

Comments: Really fun tufa climbing that ends way too soon. Don't get suckered by the sucker flake.

Comments: That is because you are so hard core Charles. I know I did the dihedral but don't recall if we went to the top. All in all I can say this climb is... I don't recall anything else.

Comments: Below about 3500 feet you will see them. Most of the climbing at this elevation is done during the winter months when it is colder. You can still climb this low if you can stay in the shade even as spring turns to summer.

Comments: Stiff start and hard clips lead to fun moderate climbing.

Comments: Chossy rock at the start of the crack would probably hold if you fell on it but I wouldn't want to fall on it. On top of that you have to use hold that might break and force you to test it. This is an okay lead if you are a 5.10 trad climber but I wouldn't do it unless you are there and have a rack. A #4 Camalot is nice to have.

Comments: This route is on the far right side of the west face before you turn the corner. A steep reddish face is just left of the start. Good route with a tenuous start. The upper arete section is really good.

Comments: This route needs some gear or you will have to run it out. Great to set up as a TR for beginners.

Comments: I see from the photo that the Manzanita has been burnt away. Michael Jimmerson had to break through about 10 feet of of the stuff. It was about 6 feet tall and I was amazed at how easily you could break pretty thick branches.

Comments: Hey Greg, It is funny that I don't really remember much about this climb and have been surprised that people find this route to be so good. I only remember that it was a crack that took good pro the whole way which is rare on the Lemmon. When we did this route in the 1980s there was only one route that had been started by Steve Grossman and Peter Noebels on the wall to the left. Sounds like it would be worth checking them out.

Comments: We added the new bolts when the manzanita came down as well doing the new start sequence. Good idea to mention it.
