Comments: A number of the newer routes here take a 70M rope to reach the ground from the low anchors. Please tie a knot in the belayers end of the rope and pay attention when lowering.

Comments: Hey Lar, I think John just offered to pay for some hardware to ensure that it is up to standard. I would send him your address and say thank you. John is a stand up guy who contributes to the development and upkeep of hardware on old and new routes.

Comments: Okay, okay, sixty or 70 feet of it. You did it with not so much as a whimper so it must be fun!

Comments: Nice you did it ground up John. That crux is burly and I didn't figure out the sequence. I was not sure where to move left into the corner. I went at the first chance but I ended up back to the right using holds on Histo where it moves a little left of the main weakness.

Comments: Attempted this route today. Glad I had a long runner to use on a blocky ledge for pro. I used an RP and a gray mastercam to keep it from being pulled off if I happened to fall trying to get to the bolt about 12 feet above the ledge. I didn't fall but I could not get past the bolt without down-climbing and traversing left to the pin. From there I could not get past it. Hmmm Will have to work on this problem.

Comments: Hey Chris, I appreciate that you are helping by replacing the worn carabiners. I would encourage you not to use lockers however as people lock them and they often need pliers to unscrew. It also makes it hard to clip them on an onsight lead of the route.

I would also suggest to everyone that they use their own draws and quit top-roping on them.

Newer climbers are nervous about lowering anyway. Explain the physics of it to them and they can teach themselves to use their rational brain to... more >>

Comments: 35 years of putting up slab routes and hard ones at that. Pretty sure I have only ever put up 3 or 4 that were 5.12. These kids that are showing up are doing amazing things Paul. The amazing kids are starting to show up from the gym and this kid might be one. He has a 13c ticked. Not sure if he redpointed it but I assume he did. Either way its cool he is even on a slab.

Comments: "I will take a brush to it next time I'm there." That's the spirit.

When you say dirty I am guessing you mean dust and lichen. Pretty sure I had an hour or more into it when we put it up. Perhaps the warmer weather will lead to more people going to this shady wall. More climbers will lead to cleaner routes.

Comments: Did this route again this weekend and had the same experience at the middle crux as before. Really hard if you don't see all the holds you can use. For some reason I forget about them from year to year.

Comments: Rest! Hah! I am in too big a hurry to send this thing to take a rest. Falling. "Damn, I need to get stronger"!

I watched too guys work Goliath for months. They each had dozens of runs before they got up it. They were stronger than me by a factor of two but would not stay at a rest longer than 60 seconds. Heel hooks, wrist hooks, knee bars, thumb catches all these techniques can make the difference. Oh yeah, and lose 5 pounds.

Comments: Mark, I am pretty sure there were some fixed pins as I clipped them when I tried it in the 80's.

Hey John, perhaps a little pry bar work is in order. Same thing has happened to Holey Moley. I can fix that without a pry bar when I have a couple of minutes and I am in the area.

Comments: Retro bolted the 5.11R start to this route. Originally I did this climb by traversing in from the left (It Crack). Later I did the unprotected direct start. It is a really nice climb with the protected direct start. Although I think it may only be 11+. Look forward to what others think.

Comments: This thing was originally top-roped in '86 by me and Cyrena Goodrich but it was deemed "too short" and not bolted. Ah but times change. Jimbo and I bolted and lead it today. The real climbing may only be 30 feet long but it is fun and steep on good rock. We were both worked at the end of it.

Comments: I heard folks are climbing out right to avoid the crux of this climb making it more 12 than 13-. I pretty much went straight up then right to a big jug when we did it. This may be because I love aretes and had tunnel vision and missed an easier way through that section.

Comments: I have tried to convince folks there to camo the hangers and anchor hardware, so far to no avail. When the sun is at the right angle they just glow. Ticks can at least be brushed off.

Comments: Found the moves through the roof at the bottom to be awkward and unpleasant. The rest of the climb was really cool.

Comments: I only had 18 and skipped a number without feeling like I was in danger. I only had one for the anchors so I lowered from the carabiners instead of my own draws.

Comments: The route left of Trapeze is called Sparky Vision 5.12. Easy on the Beaver is as it appears in the guidebook. It looks like Easy was TR'd by Bob Murray so I don't know what Suzuki did. Not sure where I got the Suzuki info. Maybe Jbak or RR. It sounds from what JS wrote that Easy is what Murray TR'd. Go do all those things and see if you can figure it out Alex.
