Comments: There should be quicklinks and Carabiners. Someone could replace them. I always have a set spray painted gray in my pack.

Comments: I used self drives and I read what the ASCA wrote about them. I paraphrase, they only had a shear of 3000 which didn't seem that good considering the effort it took to put them in. That seems pretty good to me. I am not recommending their use just was surprised they thought it was not very good. Can't remember what a modern 3/8ths is. Anyway, it would be worth asking Ray if he used drop ins of self drills. For future reference mine were used in the early 80s. When I get done with my other ma... more >>

Comments: Hey Alex, Thanks for the upgrade. These bolts needed to be replaced. Your term "shockingly horrible" is interesting. Were the short bolts rusted away or just short? Those short bolts have held tons of falls over the years. You may not be aware that they were screwed into sleeves known as drop ins or self drives that are much longer than the bolts. I used to put self drives in with grade eight bolts which are super strong. If the part below the rock was placed properly they are bomber as w... more >>

Comments: Sounds like some gym tape might be needed! Maybe they can adjust the bolts to force the issue. It can't always be done without ruining the natural flow and making people feel manipulated. This is the problem with climbing real rock, sometimes a nearby weakness makes it impossible to maintain a more sustained climb.

Comments: That's interesting Eric. While looking at the photos I wondered if people were just avoiding what looked like a short move to the right or if it was a depth of field thing. Not sure if that is what you did but that was my thought.

It is easy at times when setting up routes to force a line up a section of rock. This is especially true if it is a cool feature.

Comments: This may be the route Jim did years ago. He said their was a super high quality 5.11 at this crag. You might talk to him and see if this is the one he did.

Comments: Nah, not cranky about that. Just sayin' it is hard to rate stuff when you work a route and it feels or is rated harder than you usually climb easily and then you walk it on the redpoint. This is why I wish people would take a little time and post up on this site how many stars they think a route deserves and and what they would rate it if it is different from what is posted.

Comments: The first pitch has about 30 feet of cool climbing. The section where SA suggests moving left to a fixed pin is trivial and contrived and adds little to the experience. Looking forward to doing the second pitch.

Comments: Funny story John. A buddy of mine had pretty long draws on those anchors after his first run. Thus he could avoid making the last move on a top rope. I clipped them short when I went up. He took a good whipper and was pretty pissed until he saw the humor in it. I think he saw the humor in it.

Comments: Bolts replaced today with ASCA bolts and hangers after seeing rusting of the bolts and nuts on this climb up a water stain. One of the bolts looked brand new. I thought it must have been stainless so I pulled off the hanger to check the stud. The stud itself was rusty despite appearance of it being a brand new bolt and hanger. Probably still good for a lot years but I had everything needed to bring it up to date and did.

Comments: First pitch is really good and the last two are worth doing as it reminded me of Sheepshead. Good for the moderate team. If you know how to jam the finish is not the crux.

Comments: Never found this route. I wasn't really looking for it but I think I found all the others. It needs a better location description now that there is another route to the left. There is a set of chain anchors at the top of a left facing corner weakness.

Comments: Replaced the last two Original bolts on this climb with 1/2 inch ASCA bolts right after Aleix took a 20 footer on to the top one. So little rust and almost no damage convinces me they would have been good for a lot longer.

Comments: New ASCA anchor bolts and the last two original bolts have been replaced with 1/2 inch Rawl 5 piece bolts from the ASCA. The quicklinks and mussys need to be moved down to the new anchor. I didn't have a crescent wrench to loosen the quicklinks on the mussys.

Comments: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO LOWER OFF THIS ROUTE IF YOU DO IT AS A SINGLE PITCH. HAVE YOUR PARTNER FOLLOW IT IF YOU DO IT IN ONE PITCH. A 70M RAPPEL CAN BE DONE BUT IS JUST BARELY LONG ENOUGH. YOU CAN ALSO RAP TO THE TOP OF MOMS ROCK AND RAP AGAIN.

Comments: WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING. 70M ROPE NEEDED!!! IF YOU DO THIS ROUTE WITH THE NEW LINK-UP A 70M JUST BARELY REACHES THE GROUND. IN FACT, THE BELAYER MAY NEED TO MOVE UP THE HILL. YOU CAN ALSO RAP TO THE TOP OF MOMS ROCK THEN TO THE GROUND.

Comments: Ever since the parking lot was enlarged to the west side or the highway the everyone head out to the top of Beaver Wall and North Fin. They scramble all over the place. Anything that is not fixed in a solid way will disappear. Easily reached anchors with lower off carabiners are prime targets for people who need a key holder. I am not saying a climber didn't snag the thing but suggesting that anything not locked down has a chance of disappearing.
