Location: CO : Gunnison : Hartman Rocks : Bouldering Areas : Quarter Inch Master Area : Quarter Inch Master (V3+) By: 007 When: Mar 5, 2012 | view comment >> |
Comments: V3+ doesn't give this problem justice, short 5.12 seems more accurate. Took me like two years to finally climb this thing, it's gotta be harder than V3.

Comments: The lighter colored rock is a magmatic intrusion of predominantly quartz layered in between the gneissic schist. Sometimes people confuse this rock with granite. The rock in the Black is gnessic schist, which is granitic is nature but different. The intrusions are from ancient magma flows. I could go on, but I haven't really started geology class yet.

Comments: The bolt on the main ledge needs to be replaced. The majority of this climb is on very fragile rock. However, the dihedral pitch is one of the best pitches I've climbed at The Monument. Next ascent gets a free runner and some webbing that my partner dropped.

Location: CO : Grand Junction area : Colorado National Monument : Monument Canyon : Desert Solitaire (5.11a C1) By: 007 When: Dec 7, 2011 | view comment >> |
Comments: The C1 section is super short. I would say it goes free at hard 5.11, but it would involve some loose and very thin crack climbing (tips). Awesome route, one of the best I've done on The Monument.

Comments: This is the Moonlight Buttress of the Monument. Hahahah, really it's awesome though. This route goes free at 5.11, I have yet to climb to overhanging offwidth, but it's very short.
