the spire, we saw a few bolts from the ground, all without hangers though, whoever got the FA on this has balls, the rock quality is horrible, and the rap anchor at the top looked super sketchy

Comments: None of this info should be on the wide world web!!
But I gotta agree about the aid rating on the Standard Rt. Although, at the time of my ascent I never really considerd it an aid climb.
Nice job on a proud FFA fellas!

Comments: Thanx for the history lesson Marc...
Here is a little history for you - FFA of the Main "highest point, west summit, etc.." Summit of Shiprock - 1999 J. Sherman, P. Goodman.
Yeah, I know about the raps, many of those bolts I placed.
Yeah I know about Orme's Rib, been up there many times - if you climb the N. Summit then rap and and climb back up the Main and South summits, you did an aid rt.

Comments: Yeah, I know the Standard (Original) route on Shiprock is typically regarded as a free rt @ around 5.9. But the necessity of the rappels in all honesty and ethically, negates a "free" ascent - hence the aid rating in the grade...5.9 C.0. Moby Dike was established in 1999 and with the blessing of a local homesite permit holder.
Hmmm, funny, I just noticed that Moby Dike is listed as a route in the picture you posted of the register.

Comments: Sorry, guys. I hate to be the bearer of this news, but...the Original Route has been freed...to all 3 summits in a day, and I KNOW I don't have the FFA.

Ormes' Rib goes at 5.10c r/x to the North Summit, although I'm not sure if he did if free or not, but I did...multiple times. The variation that most people take is the Traverse Route 5.9 that takes some rappels from the notch before heading up Ormes' Rib proper, then heads into California Gully in order to avoid Ormes' Rib (the actual FA of Sh... more >>

Comments: Thanks to everyone who helped me with the beta! Made the 490th ascent yesterday. The actual climbing quality is pretty mediocre, save for a few pitches, but it is way worth it. One of the most expansive views I've ever had. It was fun reading the register as well. Didn't fix the ropes from Sierra Col, instead, rapped down the North Face in Long's Coulior on a series of good rap anchors (thanks to Pat Goodman for that advice!). Great adventure. 11 hours car to car.
