Location: NM : Santa Fe Area : Diablo Canyon By: Daniel Trugman When: Nov 12, 2009 | view comment >> | Comments: Not that I'm an "oldster", but the Basalts may also be a reference to White Rock Canyon. Though I could be wrong, I suspect the climbs there may have been more developed and better known than those in Diablo in 1983.

Location: NM : Santa Fe Area : Diablo Canyon By: Chris Wenker When: Nov 12, 2009 | view comment >> | Comments: I've got a copy of "The Climber's Bible" by Robin Shaw, published 1983. It's just an old, quaint, 'how-to' climb book, but in the back, it has a list of US climbing destinations. Under New Mexico, it lists:
"Sandia Mountains, near Albuquerque The Tooth of Time, Cimarron The Basalts, near Santa Fe"
Maybe that's what Diablo used to be called? Ring a bell for any of you oldsters?

Location: NM : Santa Fe Area : Diablo Canyon : Solar Cave : Natural Selection (5.12c) By: Amy Jordan When: Sep 24, 2009 | view comment >> | Comments: The slings GIRTH-HITCHED to the bolts on this route have been removed! To whoever put them there for projecting....please keep in mind that the crux draw is easily hung from the 5.11 to the left. The rest of the draws might be hard to pre-hang because of the big roof, granted, but why not leave your own (removable) draws on this if it is your project; I'm sure no one will take them, and then you can remove them when you're done.
The slings on the crux bolt and the bolt in the roof (w... more >>
