Nearing the P1 crux of Emerald City. Due to the camera angle, the crux section appears to be just down and left of the climber. The fixed piton is at the top of the diminishing, left-facing dihedral in shade, just left of the climber's left foot.

After hiking ~ 15 minutes, you will be at the base of Flake N Bake, at a point where numerous large boulders have recently fallen to the canyon bottom. 50 feet upstream the river bends to the north. Continue N along the left (W) side of the river on smooth slabs for 50 more feet after the bend, enter a trail through thick brush, and hunch down under a massive boulder. Cross the river under the boulder, then head south for 10 feet. Here you will find a small slab, seen in the bottom rt corner of the photo. Head E up the slab, then up the steep rounded ridge, aiming for the "Aid Boulder" in the pic.

There are two cruxes on the approach to the Gemstone area. 1) locating the correct canyon, and 2) departing the canyon bottom at the approporiate point. Once dialed, the approach takes less than 30 minutes with full kit.
